Dr. Jeff Masters is reporting another resource is coming on-line for hurricane predictions: UK Met Office.
While they have been reporting on hurricanes and cyclones for a very long time, they have been working on an atmospheric computer model to more accurately predict the behavior of hurricanes that doesn’t depend on historical data. This is important in a period of climate change, because the old rules and norms are changing.

Now there’s serendipity for you… not 10 minutes ago I was reading that same blog post by Dr. Masters. I’m glad some institutions have the foresight to work on models suitable for our new and possibly unpleasant climate.
Did you notice Proenza got called on the carpet for his outspoken support of a new QuikScat… and went public with the letter of reprimand?
Proenza is exuding his dislike for the NOAA managers. I have a feeling that he doesn’t care if they fire him because the National Weather Service is becoming politicized.
