Stupid Candidate Tricks

Dave Johnson at Seeing The Forest notes that both Edwards and Obama are carrying Repub water on Social Security.

How many times do these people have to be told that the only problem with Social Security is that the Repubs have been raiding the trust fund to give their friends and supporters tax breaks, and now they are going to be forced to pay it back. The money has been paid by the people who will receive the benefits and Congress has to put back what they have taken. The Repubs have been looting the trust fund to drive the system under and they need to be called on it, not supported in their alibis by Dems.

at least edwards seems to be agreeing with dave johnson that the rich need to start paying back the money they looted from the trust fund.

i’m less sure what obama believes about fixing social security [it doesn’t sound promising], but i stopped listening to him when i found out that austan goolsbee was advising him on health care.

Medicare needs work, but the easiest way of fixing it is to actually expand it cover everyone, so well people are paying as well as those at the end of the trail, and start negotiating for drug pricing.

Social Security just needs its money back from the GOP looters.

Hillary Clinton wants to be president.

Barack Obama wants to be president.

John Edwards actually wants to do some stuff.

Nuff said.

It is really frustrating to see Democratic candidates drinking the kool-aid on Social Security. The program is good and will be good going forward if the trust fund is restored(paid back). Every time you say that SS is broken you strengthen the GOP arguments that government run programs don’t work. Stupid, Stupid.
As Hipparchia says…at least Edwards seems to pointing his finger at the uber rich as part of the problem.

The problem are the tax cuts that have resulted in the Social Security surplus being used to fund the government rather than the Social Security system. The Federal deficit is further expanded by the interest in the national debt which is becoming one of the biggest outlays in the budget.

I wouldn’t say no to confiscating the pensions of the Congresscritters who voted for this mess.

Edwards wants to do something. And Colbert is going to F up SC for him. Does that mean that thanks to Colbert, Social Security is in more danger than before? :::she said, without satire:::

“Congresscritters” – now That’s a good one. Although I like the word Varmint better, because it conjures up visions of Bill Murray and grenades…. 😉

Edwards has a lot going for him, if he would just be more forceful about the Constitution and getting out of Iraq, he can move forward.

The only meaningful polls are just before the vote, so I wouldn’t worry about Colbert right now.

Edwards went quiet for awhile but I think he was coming up with some new framing.

congressvarmints! good one.

congresscritters rolls trippingly off the tongue, but varmints does describe them more accurately.

Edwards is a great speaker if he can get an audience, but the media has decided to hate him so he has to do it on his own. As usual, only the people who can afford to buy time get free time in the media.

I think varmints will complain about being compared to Congress.
