The memorial to those who died in the 1900 hurricane in Galveston was destroyed by Ike.
I’ve been watching the live coverage from KHOU in Houston via CBS.com and they showed the rubble from the monument strewn across the road.

On a foodie note, sad to hear that Brennan’s of Houston was gutted by fire just as Ike blew into town.
I forget which one, but we lost two restaurants and our second-run movie theater to fires in a single storm. They are electrical fires caused by the wind forcing water into the main circuit boxes.
