New Domain?

EBW at Wampum is looking at the possibility of a new Top Level Domain: .blog — Is it something enough of us would find useful?

I would grab whynow.blog if the TLD became available, and it would certainly be more convenient than whynow.on-line_opinion_magazine 😈

I’d take rooksrant.blog in a heart beat.

I think everyone with their own blog domain would go for it.

Glad to see you are recovering from the “divorce news”. Some times it’s tough being a “Guy” [that’s sort of French, isn’t it?] 😉

why now?

i have enough blogs to warrant my very own tld [though most of them are ‘resting’ at the moment. i’ think i’ll start lobbying for .hipp. no, wait… then all my other sock puppets will be jealous….

i’d grab lemmings-cliff-rocks-splat.blog in a heartbeat.

Okay, them’s fight’n words!

At least people wouldn’t be surprised when they arrived, Hipparchia.

You mean like a duel with épées like they do in France, Rook? Actually, he was a Belgian.

Oh, wow. Bloggg.blog!!!

So, now you’re accusing me of waffling?

[sigh] Oh, okay. I’ll behave.

That would certainly be appropriate, Moi.

Touché, but let’s not have this degenerate into a food fight, Rook.

i got a little distracted from that blog’s original purpose, which i later revived here for awhile. actually, i split up the earlier endeavors among a handful of blogs, but that’s the only one that’s ‘public’. maybe i should start a blog with all my ‘dark and stormy night’ efforts.

I’ve had a hectic couple days! Did I miss much? LOL

Hmmm. Why not? *shrug* .blog is not a bad idea. 🙂

Kinda OT! 😉 I was busy researching the forthcoming release of ‘Windows 7’ for a company the past couple days. Did you know there will be *20* versions???! Just to ensure everyone is confused… Way to go M$! LOL It will include one that will be used (and is being tested already) on e-voting machines (from guess which voting machine companies?) 😉 LOL Apparently, it was hacked in 2 minutes. LOL
More info, and a laugh, here:
Microsoft announces 20 editions of Windows 7!

PS: Ummm… just in case… yes, it’s a joke! 😉 I was bored. LOL

However, the part about it being used in new eVoting machines, and it being easily hacked, are not a joke. There was a test of machines done in 2007 that confirmed that they used M$ OS and they were highly vulnerable.

Hackers find serious problems in California voting machines

They still use M$.

Good luck in November. 🙂

Actually, I don’t think I made myself clear, Hipparchia. I was speaking in general terms that a .blog would make it obvious what everyone’s site was about, just as .com, .edu, .org, etc. were supposed to do. If .blog is restricted to blogs, and not anything else, it is a step towards adding some meaning to the URI.

Your site was always eclectic.

Oh, it is worse than just Windows, Kryten – the Diebold crap used Access and VBA. I worked with a non-profit that used that mix for membership and even with constant maintenance it would crash at odd moments for no discernible reason. Try doing data entry with a DBMS that forgets it has defaults and constants after a half hour.

The largest drawback of OOP is that you have to have thoroughly debugged objects. Nothing MS produces is thoroughly debugged.

XP has problems, but it is a hell of lot more consistent than anything they have produced since.
