Ah, the good old days of steam heat from a central plant in urban Europe where you have to learn the pipe code, i.e. the pattern of banging on the pipe indicating you have no heat, or that your area is a sauna and the window won’t open.

Yes, lap real estate has been at a premium lately and I have had to move in a pillow by my office chair so that there is a convenient place to put a cat when I need to get up.

If I sit down with a bowl of human food at Stella’s place, or if the room is cold, Tabitha is soon peering over the top of my legs, attempting with her paws to move my bowl out of her way (or closer to her mouth, if it’s something she wants). The effect is reinforced by the fact that the heating system has failed to turn on in Stella’s apartment. (This happens almost every year, and usually requires a call to maintenance.) Even Samantha, who is not by nature or inclination a lap cat, will very emphatically arrange herself some lap space when it’s cold inside.

They may be hale, but they really don’t like the cold weather. Ringo enjoys going outside, but she doesn’t stay long these days.

Income will zip in to jump into my office chair, but after he gets his head scratched, he’s off to the futon.

This does seem to be the season for kittehs to share their warmth. When my two aren’t cuddling with each other, they’re fighting over who gets to share my nice warm lap… and the winner just lies there. And sits. And sits. And sits…

The camera was trying to decide whether or not to use flash. There’s a midway point on the button that tells you that it has focused by giving you green brackets. If the brackets are red it is telling you to change batteries. It charges the flash as soon as you turn it on, whether it needs it or not. There is just some internal delay that seems to be built in.

Jams, I’m helped by the fact that Dot and Sox are littermates and Ringo was introduced as a kitten. Dot doesn’t like hanging out with any of the others [beneath her dignity], but everyone likes Sox and he can do as he pleases with only occasionally getting nailed by his sister.

Nice shot Bryan! I wish I could get all four monsters in one place at teh time. Robyn, likes Bebe and Mim but dislikes Ted;, Bebe and Mimi love Robyn; Bebe bosses Mimi and hates Ted (she will even block the cat flap to stop him getting in); Ted bosses Bebe and Mimi and tries to wrest the alpha cat mantle from Robyn; Mimi is not of this world!

They do look warm, don’t they!

(Sometimes, if I can’t take successive flash pics quickly, it helps to change the batteries. It’s not a guaranteed solution, but it has been known to work. I use rechargeables so it’s not an environmental issue. If the lighting is dim to start with, and the delay is due to focusing, new batteries won’t help.)
