Sounds like when I turn on the vacuum cleaner - everyone scatters except Ringo who attacks the extension. It is a lot easier to clean with her outside.

They also scatter when someone new enters, but I point out that the individual can't prove they aren't an axe murderer, so it is better to be safe, than hacked to death.

everybody here runs and hides [with the exception of the curmudgeonly one] at the drop of a hat, which is a bit like being inside a small tornado if they all start from the same place.

They are more effective than most car alarms and home security sirens which people generally ignore. If they call the police, it is to complain about the noise, not the possibility of a break in.

I figure anyone breaking in will probably trip over Sox, as he makes a point of being in the way, in case there are any treats to bribe him to move.

sport, way of life... for some it's that same thing.

most of mine are squeakers and chirpers, thank goodness, with only a couple who can be heard from outdoors. fortunately the loud ones are mostly the nontalkers, and the talkers are mostly the chirpers.

curmudgeon cat also has a loud voice, but mostly he's just opinionated. on everything. he's also got one of the most extensive vocabularies of any cat i've ever met. any vocalization any cat anywhere has ever made, curmudgeon has made it too, and put it together with others in long strings to make sentences. whole paragraphs, actually.

he seldom feels the need to raise his voice unduly, but he can raise the roof when he wants to -- scared off a burglar with his banshee shriek one night. nobody ever bothered the place again as long as i lived there, though several others in the immediate neighborhood had problems, generally nothing more than some vandalism and petty theft, fortunately. between the large black dog and the shrieking banshee i probably had the entire place terrified of me.

After the run across the yard, and just before the jump to the roof, LK. I think most of us can master the sunbathing.

Well, SSG, most of what she does is run at full speed across the yard, up a live oak tree without pausing and jump about 3 feet onto my roof for sunbathing. Do it about a dozen times a day, and you will surely lose something.

Jams, Sox has the bulk to produce loud tenor tones at inopportune times, but Income is catching up. Toms need the volume to declare their primacy, while cats merely beat the stuffing out of you.

Sounds like a business opportunity, Steve, convincing people instead of spending money on a gym they can get the same exercise at a reduce cost by paying you to let them move stuff. Face it: the most exercise people normally get from a rowing machine or stationary bike is moving it.

Voice may be a requisite for becoming an alpha female, because Molly, the Lone Ranger, and Dot can all make themselves heard when they are in the mood - and the "mood" is generally not a pleasant experience for whatever annoyed them.

We have one of each... Samantha has the squeaky chirp; the ancient Tabitha has a meow that can be heard three rooms away. We think it may be because she's hard of hearing.

I'd add myself to the slim-down list, but I seem to be doing that naturally as I age... just lucky, I guess. Or maybe it's a temporary result of moving all that furniture and those boxes a couple of months ago.
