The party identification is meaningless. The meaningful number is how many votes can be guaranteed, and no one has a majority of votes in either house. We have a coalition government without people with the courage to admit it. Both parties have been fractured for some time, but the Republicans are the ones who decided to "purify" their label becoming all crazy, all the time.

The Democrats have three wings, and function as well as any bird would with three wings. The main problem is that the wings are center left, wishy washy center, and right wing. No one has room for a left wing politician.

When in doubt the Democrats look for a Republican to convert, because the current leadership doesn't trust the left.

Disgust and disappointment sum it up for me too.

And now in Illinois we have seen fit to nominate Scott Lee Cohen for Lt. Governor. Stupid America, er, Illinois anyway, voted for a guy they knew nothing about. His competition did nothing to find out and the media, duh, didn't bother either.

This is what happens when people can't be bothered to vote. Turnout was low, less than 30%. Kinda like what happened in 1986 when the LaRouchites hijacked the Democratic ticket. But I'm not going there.

So now we have a self-financed, knife weilding pawnbroker on the ticket! And the democratic party is now whining and saying he should step down. Sigh. Ultimately he is probably no worse than others who have held power in this state.

...I confess to being totally mystified as to why there has suddenly been all this loose talk about convincing Crist to switch parties. Senate Democrats have neither the interior cohesion nor the guts to actually grab hold of the institution and bend it to their will and get things done, so it doesn't really matter if they have 59 caucusing members or 50 and a ..tie-breaking Democratic Vice President...

Senate Democratic leaders are permanently damaged sufferers of some odd political version of Stockholm Syndrome. It doesn't matter how many Real Democrats, Neo Democrats, or Pseudo Democrats they have on their side of the aisle, because too many of them will never lose their fear of being called bad names by Republicans long enough to actually get something done for the country. Slapping a "D" next to Crist's name only prolongs the problem...
