That’s the first time I have heard of that particular risk. I always worried more about the barracuda when diving in the Keys. Their tendency to make wild grabs at shiny objects made one want to leave the diving watch on the beach. They move so fast it is almost impossible to avoid a good bite if you are the target.

They are a surface fish and jump to avoid predators, like barracuda and sharks. They also have a “thing” about lights, and the normal way of catching them is to use lights and have them essentially leap into the boat at the light.
