Some Days The World Really Sucks

The gang known as the Oakland Police Department are assaulting people again. Maybe someone should call out the National Guard to deal with them, as the local politicians don’t seem to be able to do anything.

My virus software exploded with warnings at Pharyngula when I went to look at older posts. This is the problem with running ads, some of them are malware, only no one checks them before they are run from the central server.

Romney is still running the ad with the pirated NBC clip, despite complaints from NBC and Tom Brokaw. IOKIYAR. FYI: It isn’t a superPAC ad, it is identified as a Romney ad, and he approved the piracy.

For those playing at home, if turn out for the Florida primary tomorrow is much below 2 million, you will know that ‘none of the above’ won the primary. I keep hearing Repubs claim that ‘their best’ aren’t running. Their ‘best’ died some time ago, and what’s out there is the Republican Party of today.

We have had to put up with John McCain in the area to drum up support for Romney. That’s pretty pathetic.

HA! I see that Okaloosa went for Romney on this night – sandwiched between those Newtonians! Way to go! Thanks for keeping it real interesting out there in the world of electoral haywiring.

Mitt and Co. can say all they want to bring the Repubs together in this laughable primary season. We all know they’re burning cash like there’s no tomorrow. I cannot wait to see the GOP looking for a hand out come November – and getting stiffed!

Um – yeah. We have thugs in police uniforms up and down the California coast. They only use the national guard on college campuses when push comes to shove. See you in 1984!

Don’t bet on it, there is only an 200 vote gap, and the absentee ballots haven’t been counted. Turn out sucks at 40.6% state-wide, so ‘none of the above’ won. John McCain would have helped Romney in Okaloosa has he has ties to many local Republican veterans.

I just checked and Broward and Miami-Dade don’t look like they’ll make it to 30%. The Cubans are sitting it out.

I was talking about using the National Guard to control the cops. The students haven’t been a problem as near as I can see. I would have let them sit there forever, if it was up to me. The students in the ‘protests’ were a lot less of problem, than the students at the ‘Spring Fling’ or athletic events.

In each successive decade, as cops “police” protests at large events and more recently even small ones, they appear clad and equipped more and more like military troops. If the resemblance is intended to scare me… it succeeds. Arresting and/or beating reporters who have press or media credentials is another way to annoy the bejezus out of me.

Something has changed since… I was going to say my Vietnam protest days, but hell, something has changed since I protested Bush 43’s Iraq war… and not for the better, if freedom of speech, assembly and petition (preferably without broken bones) is your objective.

I remember when people had a fit because the Federal officers who were assigned to the Branch Davidian raid were given medical training by the military prior to the operation. Now local police are using military tactics, many coming from the ‘helpful’ Israeli ‘security forces’.

We can hope that the Federal judge overseeing the consent agreement with the Oakland PD shuts them down. The oath says ‘support and defend the Constitution’, not shred it. It is to be hoped that the media wakes up to the threat and starts complaining, instead of just publishing police press releases.

The local stenographers are firmly on the “the cops are always right!” side of things even when it comes to the OPD. Frankly, given the OPD’s utter incapability of handling *real* crime (they prefer hippy-punching to dealing with the gangstas in East Oakland — the gangstas shoot back! — so they ignored hundreds of 911 calls in order to spend their night hippy-punching!), the whole bunch of losers should just be fired and the National Guard take over until a new police department can be created from scratch that isn’t either gang-bangers or incompetents. Of course that would not be fair to the good cops who work for the Oakland Police Department — all four or five of them — but life’s sometimes unfair like that, so it goes.

They need to start with a new police academy to ensure the new people know how to do the job properly and in accordance with the law. Psych screening is part of the upstate New York process [jobs are inherited in NYC] and is very useful, especially to those who had to do background investigations on applicants.

You can’t ‘fix’ a corrupt department with the problems as invasive as they obviously are in OPD. The veterans just corrupt the rookies.
