Feast of the Epiphany

Today marks the Feast of the Epiphany, end of the twelve days of Christmas, and Día de los Reyes in Spanish-speaking countries.

This is the customary day for gift exchanges in many Christian cultures because it is the day that the Magi finally arrived in Bethlehem with their totally inappropriate gifts after putzing around for over a week because they didn’t want to ask for directions.

“after putzing around”….LOL! 🙂 Looking forward to sinking my teeth into some “La galette des Rois” this evening.

I was actually born in New York, and went to school there for a while, so Yiddish occasionally slips in to my vocabulary.

What is a carpenter with with a wife and newborn going to do with frankincense and myrrh? Gold is good, except that he was in town for the census and that included paying taxes, so there both Roman and Israeli revenuers on the area who would want to know about the gold and odd chemical compounds in the possession of a family living in a stable and being visited by wealthy foreigners. Come on, this has ‘drug dealing’ written all over it … 😈
