Iditarod 2015 – Day 6

Iditarod 2015 Map
Sled DogThe front of the race have finished their 24-hour stops so the race is on.

Jason Campeau and Thomas Waerner are in another race, for Rookie of the Year. Jason just completed his first Quest in 7th place.

At the very back of the race is Ellen Halverson (35), the only person to have won two Red Lanterns. She is positioned to pick up her third.

Gerald Sousa and Christine Roalofs have both scratched, but no word yet as to why.

The Mushers in bold are former winners of the Iditarod, while italics indicates Yukon Quest winners. The numbers in parentheses are their Bib numbers. The small “R” indicates a total rookie, while the small “Q” indicates an Iditarod rookie who has completed a Yukon Quest.

These are the official standings. That means they are official, not that they are correct. Things jump around a lot as people decide to update the standings. This problem is especially bad in the back of the pack, as no one bothers to update those standings when the lead is changing.

This post will be updated during the day, and the map changed on all posts to reflect the current situation.

Poor Ellen. Finishing the race at all is an accomplishment, of course. But finishing last for three straight times? Man.

This is her sixth race and she has only finished twice, when she got the Red Lanterns, so they aren’t the downer they would be for other people. Besides, she’s a psychiatrist in Wasilla, home of the Palin clan, and that has to make a very busy professional 😈
