Eleven Years

I have been writing this ‘on-line opinion magazine’ for a day more than 11 years. Yesterday was my blogiversary, but I was involved with ‘real life’ and couldn’t post.

Things haven’t changed much during that time. For example, we are still dealing with blow-back from Ronnie Raygun’s funding of ‘freedom fighters’ in Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation and the Shrubbery’s invasion of Iraq.

Rather than admitting they were wrong, the media are still ignoring and/or attacking the people who told them this would happen, and giving airtime to the people who screwed up.

I don’t see any reason to believe that things will change in the near term.

Good to see you’ve lasted so long Bryan. As we know, many don’t, for a variety of reasons.

You have been an oasis of sanity in the global ocean of insanity! You have truly helped my sanity on a number of occasions over the 8+ years I’ve been visiting here. 😀

Long may you reign! 😉 😀

PS: How you have managed to keep your sanity, I’ll probably never know! 😆

Trained intel analysts learn not to take things personally. When you accept that some people in power are too stupid to know they are evil, it gets a lot easier. Not watching TV and avoiding the US media helps a lot.

Basically I vent here and go through my anger management routines.

We were posting at the same same time, Jillian. Thank you.

Get a job, hippie!

I had a job and have managed to retire without starving. I’ll let one of the kiddies take my place in the job market to keep them off my lawn. 😉

Congratulations, and thank you. Also, thanks for your perspective and for holding down your end of the state of Florida while we wrestle with the other end.

Thank you, MB, but I was reading you before I started writing, and not much changes up here in the ‘northern highlands’ – people are uniformly infected with the same mental health problem – willful stupidity.

Congrats, Bryan. Remember that it’s up to YOU whether to aim for another 11 years. Personally, I really hope you do, but I can certainly identify with any feelings you may have that there are bound to be more effective and worthwhile things to do with one’s time… 😈

On another topic, I’ve been reading Eleanor Roosevelt’s autobiography, and have reached the last few chapters in which she recounts her UN experiences and her direct encounters with many leaders of the very Communists you faced down in your service days. As you might expect, most of her analyses are spot on, and she came away from her visit to the Soviet Union with a better understanding than practically every one of her critics of how the Commies, mostly the Russians, got to be the way they were and came to pursue the policy and government nightmares they did. (Her assessment of Tito was too generous IMHO, but hey, no genius is perfect, and yes, I think she was a genius in her own way.) In any case, I recommend her autobio if you need some inspiration from our side of the political spectrum. The abridged version will do nicely…

Get blogging, my friend!

I’ll keep going until it becomes too much to deal with, Steve.

Yes, Steve, Eleanor was the smart one in the marriage. She traveled the country and worked to get the government to do things that would actually help the majority of people, not just those at the top. Tito did the political equivalent of herding cats in the Balkans, so he wasn’t as bad as those that followed him in power.
