Yukon Quest 2016 – Day 14 et Fini
Gaetan Pierrard is the final team on the trail. Wearing bib number 7 and carrying la Lanterne Rouge at 6AM CST he still has 35 miles to go until the finish at Takhini Hot Spring. While the shift to the Spring shortened the course, instead of a flat run on the river down to Whitehorse, teams are having to navigate hills at the end. The moon has been waxing and is nearly full.and the Northern Lights have been active, so hasn’t been pitch black, but after two weeks on the trail you will start to see things that aren’t there and miss things that are. His last indicated speed was 7mph.
As he had planned with a friend, Gaetan arrived at the finish around 11AM CDT (9AM PST) ending the race. 19 out of 23 teams and 179 of 322 puppies that started finished. Hugh finished in 9 days, 1 hour, and 25 minutes, and it took Gaetan 12 days, 19 hours, and 51 minutes.
