Follow The Money

Let the fun begin The Panama Papers:

The financial secrets of heads of state, athletes, billionaires and drug lords have been exposed in the latest — and biggest ever — leak of records from an offshore tax haven.

The leak includes 11.5 million confidential documents shedding light on the assets and murky fiscal dealings of everyone from the prime ministers of Iceland and Pakistan to soccer player Leo Messi, movie star Jackie Chan and associates of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The hot, new job prospect is forensic accounting as news organizations parse these records and some people discover they really can’t go home again … unless they want to be arrested.

Oh don’t be silly. People with that kind of money don’t have anything to fear from the police. How many Wall Street bankers went to jail for defrauding pension funds all over America with bogus “good as Treasuries” mortgage-backed securities that in fact were backed by liar loans guaranteed to fail? How many?

Yeah. Thought so.

Laws are for us little people, not for them.

Good timing Bryan. 😀 I was going to post a link in my earthquake *news* comment. Then I thought you’d start a thread about it sooner or later. And here it is. LOL

The father of one of the co-founders of the Law firm the leaks originated from was a member of the Nazi Waffen-SS who was of course recruited by the CIA after the war to spy on Cuba. 😀 I do love how almost all of the US’s International problems eventually lead back to at least some CIA involvement (actually, it’s usually more than *some*. But the CIA is good at the shell game. I’ll give them that!)

Of course, Putin was involved up to his ample ears. Big surprise.

Fusion have been doing a lot of investigative work on this and have posted some editorials:

Dirty Little Secrets

“Panama was largely a creation of the U.S.,” says Barney Warf, a University of Kansas geography professor who studies offshore banking.

Today, he says, “Panama is essentially an extension of the U.S. economy.” It harkens back to the early 20th century, when canal workers were paid in American dollars. In the roaring, free-market friendly 1920s, Panama adopted U.S.-style corporate laws. Some U.S. ships, seeking to avoid Prohibition restrictions against serving alcohol onboard, registered in Panama instead. Franklin D. Roosevelt’s administration was alarmed to find out that, as the U.S. worked to dig itself out of the Great Depression, wealthy Americans were using Panama as a tax haven.

Jurgen Mossack’s family landed here in the 1960s. During World War II, his father had served in the Nazi Party’s Waffen-SS, according to U.S. Army intelligence files obtained by the ICIJ. Once in Panama, the elder Mossack offered to spy on communists in Cuba for the CIA.

But Ohhhhh, the one group of bastards I am sooo happy has been caught by this is FIFA! If they go down, why… I may even believe in the possibility of God! :O

Oh! And did you know your Cat can have a shell company too? 😉 😆

Watch how easy it is to start an anonymous shell company for your cat

How simple is it to start an anonymous shell corporation? Fusion investigative correspondent Natasha del Toro went to Delaware — famous for its corporate secrecy — to find out. Witness the birth of She Sells Sea Shells LLC, a business incorporated in five minutes for an anonymous beneficial owner — Natasha’s cat Suki. No ID necessary!

Love it! 😀 I knew setting up my business companies in Delaware years ago was a good idea! LMAO

South Dakota is rivaling Delaware in the bogus corporation creation. Becoming a corporation is the easiest way of ‘disappearing’ in the US – because corporations are people too… 😈

Panama is a US creation on land stolen from Colombia to build the Canal. The Dulles Brothers were so pathological about “COMMUNISM” that they would shovel money at any tinpot fascist dictator who claimed he was fighting “the Reds”.

Oh, I have no real hope that the US will actually punish any of our crooks, but the Prime Minister of Iceland definitely has a problem – Iceland’s crooked bankers are still in prison.

Heh… Kevin Mitnick tweeted: “Use a law firm that encrypts their data. Wait! Is there any law firm that bothers protecting their client data?” Refering to the original article @ Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ):

Panama Papers – The secrets of dirty money

Like they would give a damn! 😀

I have no idea who leaked these documents, but I love ’em! 😀 Thanks to “The Panama Papers” our #1 highly respected current affairs program, 4 Corners, released corruption details of several Aus. companies (including BHP, Wilson Security & a major Australian power company) and even the PM (hiding millions in the Cayman Islands)! Since then, a large poll was commissioned, & the Coalition has plummeted below 48% & the ALP has risen to over 52% for the first time in many years! Turnbull’s personal rating is -10%! Lower than Tony Abbott’s ever was! LOL

Over 800 Aussies have been named in the Panama Papers, and the ATO (Aus. Tax Office) is investigating. However, not long after the leak was announced over a year ago, the Coalition Gov. axed 4,400 jobs at the ATO! Now we know why. Without the staff, the ATO investigation will go nowhere. Funny, that.

This was on Mashable Australia. The CIA/NSA/FBI etc. Could learn a thing or two from this! LOL

400 reporters kept the Panama Papers secret for a year. Here’s how they pulled it off.

Imagine that! 400 reporters keeping this a secret for a year! And nobody knew! If Putin or several others outed had known, most of them would be dead or vanished!

Well, Bryan, you nailed the Iceland PM thing. He just resigned. Probably to have more time to visit his tailor to see what he looks like in striped jumpsuits :).

7 Bryan { 04.05.16 at 10:36 pm }

Well, Badtux, maybe he and his wife can get adjoining cells as the Nordic countries have very progressive ideas about prisons.

Kryten, a number of the people named in the reports could only have gotten their money from very nasty people who are not going to be happy. There will probably be purges in Russia, China, and definitely North Korea.
