Look Out Below!

On last Friday an F-22 worth ≅$140 million dropped out of the sky over an Eglin AFB range, and last night an F-35A worth ≅$90 million did the same thing. The pilots ejected successfully. COVID-19 isn’t enough to worry about, now we have tons of flaming metal raining from above.

I read about those incidents, and worried that they had come down in your neighborhood. So, face masks and shields for COVID-19… and helmets, body armor, etc. for falling aircraft…

Stay Safe!

I’m a half block from the bayou and a block from Choctawhatchee Bay, so I’m not overly concerned as they always aim for the water when possible or the base when not. It’s a PR thing that they drum into pilots – don’t blow up private property or taxpayers.

Any reports on the causes yet Bryan? 🤔 I’m not really surprised about the waaaaay overpriced F-35, but a little surprised over the F-22. Where they both based at Eglin or some other USAF base? Sounds like it could be a maintenance issue if so.🤔🙄

The basic cause is that it was an F-35. It was a close air support run at a bombing range and any problem will result in a crash because you have no altitude to made a correction. The pilots of the F-35 and F-22 were injured because (1) they didn’t have the altitude for the parachutes to deploy fully; or (2) they weren’t properly positioned when they pulled the ejection handle.
