Tour de FranceSisteron > Orcières-Merlette

Distance: 160.5 kilometers.

A “Hill” stage with five climbs. It starts at 478 meters and climbs to 1,825 meters and a summit finish.

  • Col du Festre 67.5 km (cat 3: 7.6km @ 5.3%)
  • Côte de Corps 97.5 km (cat 4: 2.2km @ 6.4%)
  • Côte de l’Aullagnier 125.5 km (cat 3: 3.0km @ 6.4%)
  • Côte de Saint-Léger-les-Mélèzes 141.5 km (cat 3: 2.8km @ 6.8%)
  • Orcières-Merlette 160.5 km (cat 1: 7.1km @ 6.7%)

The intermediate sprint is at 51.5 km at Veynes and then the climing begins in earnest.

The basic fact is that climbs fall into five types, with the four numbered types decreasing in difficulty as the numbers get larger, and then there is the Hors Catégorie, literally “without category”, which generally makes you look for an elevator or Sherpas.
