While the correlation is not perfect… many veterans are hawks and many doves are not veterans… the perspective you describe seems characteristic of a lot of combat veterans I’ve known. Personally I don’t even want to think about what it’s like to be in a war zone, let alone to be a combatant. But those who have been there often do seem to have greater respect for the troops than the chickenhawks do. I’d be happy to see more Democratic veterans in Congress.
