OWL, I would change anything based on my spelling. We could just call it un-Presidents’ Day to acknowledge the total lack of anything approaching success or accomplishments on the part of some of the 43 men who have been granted the office by election or chance.

The interface is similar to Blogger, but there are things you can do in a free WordPress blog without editing the template (i.e., without messing with HTML yourself) that require more technical skill in Blogger. For example, in free WordPress, you can rearrange your sidebar content using a drag-drop interface, with nary a line of code to be seen anywhere. And their programmers are adding nice features with fairly easy interfaces all the time; every few days, I see new features that actually work as advertised… what a concept.

If you really need to be able to tweak the more obscure details of your blog, the free WordPress may not be for you. If you want to write your own template, or modify the insides of an existing one, it’s not for you (though they offer about a dozen free templates). I just wanted a place to put up some of my old doggerel, and the free version met all my needs.

It takes about five minutes to set up a free WordPress blog; give it a try. If you don’t like it, you can always delete it. But my experience is this: what’s not to like? (Note that I have no business relationship with WordPress; I’m an honest enthusiast.)

There are a lot of things you can do with WordPress without editing the template by hand that you can’t do with Blogger, but the look and feel of the system is more important.

I’m thinking of moving off blogspot too (they are just too problematic) But I’m not sure of my techno-talents to actually work in a serious HTML format. And Boo-Hooey, since Len is retired he refuses (won’t) help me – though I can’t blame him for wanting to enjoy his break from the blog-vicious internets stuff.
