They are blinded by their power and lost their way. The old Republican Party didn’t blinded support the excesses of Nixon, but this new breed refuse to see what is in front of them.

Anyone may be venal, but these people have made it a religion.

The nuclear arsenal is a last use, back to the wall, weapon. It is what you use in desperation and fear of annihilation, not in a first strike.

It isn’t needed. You don’t need to blow up the bunkers, you seal the entrances. It’s a much safer approach if you don’t know what’s in the bunker to blow-up the entrances. You can find them the same way they find underground chambers in the Valley of Kings, with radar.

I can imagine… indeed, I have seen examples of… Democrats taking bribes; I have roundly condemned them for doing so, and cheered when some of them were driven from office (and occasionally to jail) for their malfeasance.

But I have yet to meet the Democrat (not a DINO) who would lie about foreign intelligence to take the nation to war for mere political advantage, or distort a national security issue to terrify people for political advantage, or Swift-Boat an opposing candidate to win or steal an election, or “out” a covert agent of our intelligence services for personal payback, or… (add to the list if you wish). In that sense, we are better people than at least the leaders of the GOP. That is why I chose and continue (in the face of much frustrating behavior) to choose the Democratic Party.

This is not just UT vs. Texas A&M, or Rice vs. … oops, no one bothers to be my alma mater’s rival. This is for real. For all the Bible-thumping of some of its members, the GOP, as an institution, is willing to do things Democrats are unwilling to do… and (sorry, I can’t resist) thank God for that unwillingness.

And now the Bushies are talking about using nukes. First. Pre-emptively. I rest my case.

I feel certain that there are Democratic politicians who would have been happy to accept bribes and do favors for corporations, but the Republicans refused to cut them in on the money.

I don’t think there has been a time since Reconstruction in the 19th century when the minority party was so bereft of power.

Oh, those poor Democrats might have enjoyed the bribes, too. Darn those Republicans! If they wouldn’t have shoved the Dems out, they could point at them for being just as bad… How odd that Reid put a “stranglehold” on the senate. and… what about that phrase, (talking about Frist) he left behind GOP conservatives, who see the measure as offering amnesty to lawbreakers. I heard that on the radio and was confounded by that statement. How many Republicans have gotten away with various methods of lawbreaking? I guess they just don’t want the little people to get away with it.
