That’s the problem, Steve.

In the old days, while it was still a church with a real pastor, and not a media empire with a star, the Rev. Smith asked if people could park along my Mother’s driveway, and she said yes.

These people have taken over an entire block and cut down all of the big trees for a parking lot. No one in town goes to the church, but the people who do just assume they have a right to park wherever they feel like.

They are rude.

The last time they complained about the sprinklers, I sent them a copy of the new Florida law about shooting people who annoy you.

The people in the rental duplexes behind my Mother’s are Pentecostals who regard Baptists as Satanists, so there won’t be any “hostile” witnesses.

It’s hard to believe that at one time there really was one catholic Christian Church.

I’m afraid I still can’t forget an incident almost four decades ago when I was in college: the Campus Crusade for Christ “borrowed” someone’s milk from a refrigerator on one floor of a dorm, to be consumed with cookies at their meeting. Caught in the act, the perp was unapologetic: it was for a worthy cause, she said. Some people, even some people who call themselves Christians, can’t seem to fathom the idea of “someone else’s property.” If I had a sprinkler, I’d sprinkle in the mornin’ …

My Mother gets upset about people tearing up the lawn. If you have them towed it causes even more damage. It’s all about my concern for my Mother’s lawn and not the sight of people trying to run in suits and high heels across the soggy grass under the deluge of the sprinklers to get to their cars. That would be petty.

Due to reduced membership at the local chapter of the Religious Reich, no one parked on my Mother’s lawn, so it was a quiet Easter for a change.
