I was under the impression that the thing about dogs was Arabic, not Islamic, like a lot of what people assume about Muslims.

Unfortunately.

Though what on earth could possibly be un-Islamic about walking a dog? I don’t recall any prohibitions on the owning of pets in the Qu’ran.

The clerics are interested in maintaining their hold on power, and they can’t do it if the Iranian population gets upset.

Iran is a very young country, which negates the power of the Iranian exiles, because a significant portion of the population doesn’t remember the Shah and knows nothing about Iranian life under the Shah, except what their parents tell them.

The US would be better off talking to whoever wants to talk in Iran. We need channels of communication, we need Iranian young people traveling abroad and going home. If we attack, they will support their country, no matter what they think of their government.

The current policy of refusing to talk and beaming broadcasts into Iran is wasting time and money. It hasn’t worked with Cuba, so why would it work in Iran?

I heard the son of the former Shaw on Mother ones radio, he spoke well of the people. They are fairly moderate, and ready for a moderate government.

However he cautioned against a military option for the US. This would vilify our efforts and turn the people agaist us.

The Bush Administration could help to over throw the Iranian government, with out troops or nuclear weapons. However, I doubt that they have the brain power.

The interview is on the Mother Jones website – it’s worth a listen.
