Nine years is not bad at all for a feral cat, and surviving all those events means she must have been very tenacious. That said, I know you’ll miss her a lot. If it helps, just think of how much longer she lived with your help than she would have done unassisted.

One of our most effective local animal rescue/release workers says she never gives names to the wild animals temporarily in her custody, because doing so would strengthen her attachment to them, a bond which ultimately must be broken when they are released into the wild. But sometimes it doesn’t matter if you regard an animal as a pet or simply as a creature temporarily under your care: it’s hard to say goodbye when you lose one.

Hang in there, Bryan, and keep up the good work.
