John, when you are wondering around in the theater of the absurd with people claiming you’re a Nazi, how better to respond than a post from a cat who looks bears a resemblance to Hitler. The whole concept of anyone “leading” bloggers goes to the “herding cats” analogy, and who better to herd cats? There are also the comments in the “Cat Food Blogging” post at Andante’s place.
As for the TNR thing, it’s tied to Israel. The magazine makes support of Israel the primary test for everything. The neoclowns feature support of Israel, so that colors everything else.
OT: I can’t figure out why you keep getting moderated, John. That should only happen the first time you post a comment, or if you include multiple links.

]]>As late as the late 1960’s it still was considered something of a liberal mag, although in retrospect, I think, mostly because of the superior reporting by the anonymous reporter (his name escapes me but it was one of the least-well kept secrets in D.C.) who wrote the regular column on the inside front page. I parted company as a TNR subscriber by the early ’70s — the mag already was tilting too much to the Right for my taste.
That seems odd since by comparison with today, TNR almost could be considered wildly left-wing in those days. But I was not the only one to see the shift. My father in law at the time, a mild mannered English professor whose sensibilities were not so much political as just civic, puzzled over it, too, as he stopped his subscription.
So, does anyone know what happened? How did the extreme Right Wing infect The New Republic and turn it into a house organ for fascist crazies? Has anyone written the inside story?
