I remember watching the moon broadcast, turning to my mom and asking why the picture was so horrible. I’m sure she gave a good answer but I still wasn’t impressed. So much for the sense of occasion. 😉

I saw it on a lash up of parts thrown together by one of the electronics maintenance guys that displayed it on a green screen. We were using the same feed that NASA was getting, thanks to a lot of very expensive military equipment and antennae.

That’s pretty cool, not to mention creative. Just out of curiosity, though, since that feed wasn’t converted to broadcast, was the picture pretty clear?

Not as clear as what most people saw because we lacked the filters to clean it up and weren’t directly in the path of the signal, but we saw it before the rest of the world for reasons I can’t go into, but I can can tell people that the signal was definitely coming from the moon. It was a sheer accident of timing and position that we were able to get it. We had some extra gear that was carried because we thought we might be in position.

In the direct signal you viewed, did you see the Storker Project’s baby? (Scroll to bottom for relevant image. On his own site, the rest of Mark Jenkins’s work is pretty entertaining as well.)

It wasn’t as smooth as what other people saw, but I missed the Storker baby.
