Yes, Blogger has been having a lot of problems lately. One of the prices of success is hardware strain.

I haven’t seen a “trick or treater” since I moved back.

In my adult life, two Halloweens stand out.

On one, Halloween happened to coincide with a full moon, and the then-annual Houston Moonlight Bicycle Ramble took place that night. Thousands of us rode a predetermined route through the city; many wore their costumes. I didn’t; my costume was a bit impractical for cycling: I carried a recorder (the kind with finger-holes, edge, windway and block) and wore a tunic with the symbol π on it… I think you can guess who I was.

On the other, I stayed home, opened the front door, wore a black cape (well, OK, an old black coat), sat at the harpsichord within sight of the door and repeatedly rendered the Bach Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue, cackling demoniacally as I played. Few kids were out that evening, but those who ventured near were suitably amused. I won’t speculate on the nature of their amusement, but I, at least, had a lot of fun.

Tonight? I’ll probably work. Sigh…
