In the old days when Richard Petty was king they would put the cars in acid baths to reduce weight. Of course, back in those days you could buy the cars at a show room and most local machine shops could do all of the polishing necessary to be competitive.

Waltrip’s charge of monkeying with the fuel was truly stupid because of the peculiar qualifying rules at Daytona, where he was going to most likely have to make the race by finishing well in one of today’s 150-mile qualifying races.

I’ll still watch; I’ve been a gear head my whole life and watching NASCAR races is one of my dirty little secrets I try to keep from friends and relatives…
