If you trace spam back to someone in the US or the EU, you can take them to court, but you have no options if they locate in a fringe country.

As the eastern European countries change their laws to enter the EU, the spam will move to another unregulated area.

Why? What is the advantage, if any, to Eastern Europeans — or whoever it may be?

It isn’t effective as a marketing tool. Good content on a web site, something with creativity, would be more effective.

Jim, I’d like to see them hand filtering the spam at a major ISP, aversion therapy, with the quality of their work determining the quality of their food. They could start with water on MREs.

Yeah, John, I’ve been watching it. It is slowing down things through the “chicken ranch” in Herndon, Virginia, which is the main US/Europe node. It’s flooding in from Eastern Europe. They are going for old posts so that no one notices the links. That’s why I close comments and trackbacks after a month.

Each email typed in individually, one by one.

In my not so humble opinion, spammers, when caught, should have the option of 1) their fingers being smashed repeatedly with their keyboards or 2) repaying their debt to the planet by serving two years in the Peace Corps.
