Bush Declares War On The Senate

Swift Boat donor’s appointment sidesteps Congress

President Bush named Republican fundraiser Sam Fox as U.S. ambassador to Belgium on Wednesday, using a maneuver that allowed him to bypass Congress where Democrats had derailed Fox’s nomination.

[snip]

Recognizing Fox did not have the votes to obtain Senate confirmation, Bush withdrew the nomination last month. On Wednesday, with Congress out of town for a spring break, the president used his power to make recess appointments to put Fox in the job without Senate confirmation.

This was an open declaration of war. He doesn’t intend to confer with Congress for any reason, no matter what the Constitution says. Impeach the slimy chunk of garbage, or de-fund him. There is no point in trying to work with him.

As far as I can tell, this interim appointment… which at least one Senator expressed doubts about from a constitutional perspective, questioning whether this short break qualifies as an interim… serves no purpose other than as a sharp stick in the eye of a coequal branch of government.

Bush has two eyes. The Senate has 200 eyes altogether, many of them belonging to bright, powerful people. If Bush is going to start shoving metaphorical sticks in the eyes of Senators, he’d better have not only a large supply of sticks, but a really good pair of protective goggles.

Don’t wait for the end of his term. Impeach the bastard now.

This was an intentional attack on the Senate. If they don’t push back, they should be thrown out with him. It’s time to provide a reality check. Maybe they should take away Air Force One.

But if they took away Air Force One, then he couldn’t use it primarily to hop around the country the majority of the year, doing fundraising photo-ops for republicunt candidates and major GOP donors. Just think of the tax money that this smarmy cocksuckers has wasted, for no other reason than to enrich the richest 1%.

Gallows. East Lawn.

NOW.

And if anybody in Congress protests, find a rope to fit their cowardly necks, too.

If they are impeached, they lose their benefits and pensions. We can then sue to get some of money back. then we can ship them to the Hague, or wherever.

This one isn’t over. Apparently there are also legal problems (over and above the constitutional ones) about the SwiftBoater’s appointment. Federal law requires that certain kinds of recess appointments have to be unpaid, and Mr. Fox (a multimillionaire, natch) volunteered to accept the ambassadorial appointment without salary. But federal law also prohibits appointing someone without pay to any position that has a fixed salary, as ambassadors do.

Seems that Bush can’t even manage to slide his wingnuts in quietly without shooting himself (and them) in the foot.

This is a loop hole that needs plugging. I didn’t like it when Clinton did it, and it needs to be altered, but it will take a Constitutional amendment. The need for a recess appointment disappeared when Congress became a full-time job, and not an obligation during the slow period on the farm.
