There are so many grisly and senseless murders (as told by an older woman from a younger girl’s perspective) that after awhile .. … it seems she just speaks objectively of it. You read that she is giving up on her sister even though there is no proof, only rumor. At the end she has a section for ‘those who didn’t make it’. I had to set the book aside for a time as I just couldn’t keep up the relentless unveiling of these murdering factions who terrorized innocent people … I have to get a grip on my courage and finish it.
Yes, history is the most important factor in the understanding of others and the present.
