(A fence now prevents that walk. And my lovely apartments have since been demolished, and a high-end high-rise erected in their place. Sigh.) Back to topic… the Garden Center had many different kinds of roses. It didn’t take long for me to learn which roses to stop and smell, and the experience brightened many a dark day.

Most of the American hybrids don’t have an aroma, while some of the British roses are grown specifically for their aroma.
