The big difference, Michael, is that Putin does know what he’s doing, and he’s doing it deliberately. They are both testosterone poisoned, not a good thing when nuclear weapons are involved.

There was something in Le Monde, either yesterday or today (I forget which) that suggested part of the problem is that Russia views compromise as weakness. Putin and Bush both share one trait in common–each wants to get his own way, and gets very cranky when that doesn’t happen.

i saw those 2 headlines, one earlier in the day, and the other one later in the day, and wondered if i was hallucinating. i would feel a lot safer if bush would just go haul dead branches around out in the middle of texas somewhere, until about february 2009.
