Another privatization scheme that didn’t work.

The Superscoopers really need a specific kind of water supply, like a large lake and the drought is taking a toll on that.

The wind was supposed to shift from the west to the north, so the smoke may not be a good indicator of what’s going on.

I think that was a problem with a couple of planes dropping water that crashed doing so a couple of years back.

Today there was a plume of smoke rising thousands of feet above the mountains. It looked like a cumulus cloud standing on it’s head on one of the peaks. They say the wind is keeping the flames away from the ridge, but seeing that plume coming toward town sent a little shiver through the spine. You can see smoke all along the top of the mountain range. This is truly sureal.

Oh, the IL-76P is actually a roll on apparatus that can be installed in any IL-76. A Canadian company has a few. One problem is that the DC-10 watertanker in Victorville has been grounded after an incident the last time it flew. It should be available shortly, but the Feds haven’t approved it for their operations. It has about two-thirds the capacity of a IL-76P.

Geez. You’ve got me trained thinking of you for planes and plates.

That they feature the WTC on that plate is an insult to those who died in Oklahoma City.

You can see it in a slightly off color of the sky which is just on the edge of consciousness, i.e. something’s wrong, but it’s not readily apparent what.

The new car has HEPA filtering on the air, so making the trips isn’t bad, but walking any distance across an asphalt parking lot is not a lot of fun. It’s almost to the point you need a canteen to go to the supermarket.

The thunderstorms are staying just off the coast. If one would come in, it would scrub the air and cool things off for a bit. You don’t want to trying watering, because that would just increase the humidity.

Of course, as much as I dislike breathing it, we’re not as bad off as people like Jill who are close to the fires. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for those folks, and staying indoors as much as I can.

Flying back to Atlanta tonight so I will get to enjoy some of it with you.
