Whether they are “acting” or a “recess appointment,” there’s nothing that is going to happen until the end of this Congress, and the Shrubbery will be out office even if he isn’t impeached.

Bolton was booted because recess appointments only last until the next Congress. Procedure gives the White House the ability to do what ever it wants until January 2009.

One of my more paranoid speculations on the AG situation: what if Bush really wants Keisler in the job permanently, floated Olson to give Dems someone to shoot down, and anticipates the conservative base sinking Mukasey’s nomination because he’s too moderate? Then Bush shrugs his shoulders, says Congress won’t confirm anybody he nominates, and ceases naming people for the job. Bush gets the man he really wants, no fuss, no confirmation necessary.

What, exactly, makes that impossible?

Clement probably wasn’t enough of a yes man to suit Cheney, whereas Keisler has no existence outside of the Hedgemony.

Bryan, Even bigger -- the surprise appointment of Peter Keisler as Acting Attorney General of the United States. The media has totally ignored the implications of this 'sex' scandal, which is that Bush is continuing to f**k the Justice Department.
