People keep walking in this stuff and handling it without realizing it is working to break down their skin which is only mildly acidic. Breathing the dust will burn their lungs.

When all of their hydrangeas start putting out pink flowers they’ll notice the difference. The blossoms are natural litmus paper.

Many people don’t realize what a dangerous substance wood ash is. When it mixes with water it can cause pretty serious alkali burns if not neutralized with a mild acid such as citrus juice or vinegar. Anyone that has been scrubbed with an old fashioned lye soap will know the effect.
