Sorry and a Wrong Number

So I get a call from Common Sense Issues for a few questions. CSI is non-partisan [Republican] interest group that is not associated with any campaign [especially not the campaign of that good Christian, real Republican hero of the voter, Mike Huckabee].

They are doing it wrong. The first question should have been “are you a registered voter”, followed by “are you voting in the Republican primary” and the call terminated if the answer is “no” to either question.

It was a push poll dumping on McCain and Romney over their wealth and support for taxes, or something.

I had a hard time dealing with the three issues in the poll: immigration, guns, and taxes, none of which are important to me. For me, I would deal with undocumented workers the same way I would deal with drugs: legalize and tax them. If businesses have to deal with the undocumented the same way they deal with legal workers, there’s no point in hiring them. When the jobs go away, as is occurring on the Gulf Coast, so do the undocumented, also occurring. Unfortunately we are also losing a couple of good, cheap Mexican restaurants, but times are hard.

That takes care of immigration and taxes, which leaves guns. This is Florida. If they came to my door and asked these questions, I’m fairly certain that the law passed last year [the OK Corral in Wal-Mart’s parking lot law] makes it legal for me to shoot them. I’m not sure if Waste Management will pick up the bodies on Tuesday or Friday, or I have to arrange for a separate trip. I know if they are over 250 pounds I can’t put them in the issued container. Guns, the use of and access to, are not a real issue in Florida unless you are sane.

Seriously, you’re right. If we have a problem with undocumented workers, document them, problem solved.

over here, for all dead varmints you’re supposed to call animal control to pick up the bodies, no matter what size.

use your god-given common sense, man! push polls are all about flinging poo casting bread upon the waters. it doesn’t really matter if you’re a registered republican and planning to vote, you might accidentally talk to a registered republican who’s planning to vote, in which case you just might pass on the seed they’ve planted in your head.

People hire them because they can’t complain about being ripped off and everyone should be able to figure it out, Michael. Give them working papers and the rights of all workers, and the employers will stop hiring them. The employers are deducing the workers half of the taxes from the wages and not sending them in, but keeping them.

Animal control doesn’t do it in Okaloosa County, Hipparchia, you either bury them yourself or into the “green can”.

I avoid talking about anything semi-political with local Repubs, so they wasted their money.

Of course the employers want a permanent underclass, and presumably help to demonize the very people they exploit, because that’s how the game is played.

And that’s why we never seem to fix the system and make it fair for all concerned – the employers want slave labor.

So why can we all see this, but nobody else seems able to do so? Curious penguins want to know!

because there are enough people now in the slave class who think that one day they’ll make it out into the overlord class. in which case, they’d hate it if all the other slaves got out too.

i occasionally like making people’s heads explode, so i do sometimes talk to the local republicans.

Willful ignorance is probably one of the few things that humans can call their own when compared to their “lesser cousins” in the animal kingdom, Badtux, although some breeds of dogs have been known to put up with this crap.

Most people refuse to admit they are slaves, Hipparchia, and others willingly serve their masters, helping to enslave even more people.

My Mother does that, and it’s so hard to get the stains out of the carpets.

with the dog shedding tons of fur and the cats pulling all the books off the shelves, i haven’t seen my carpet in ages. i should maybe check…

You cannot tell people they are slaves when they have been educated to believe they are free.

We can address degrees of freedom and limitation, however, and encourage the exercise of that free will which everyone has within their present bounds to alter those bounds.

I got one of those push-poll calls on one of my ornery days. The guy wouldn’t cease or desist, so my reply to his question of which Republican candidate was I going to vote for in the primary was “None of them, you idiot. I’m a damned Democrat!” [click!]

(I do try not to slam the phone down — the handset is old and brittle…)

The cats may have cleaned it up, Hipparchia.

It has been my unfortunate experience, Michael, and reality and thought are the most avoided things in this country.

You put up with months of this stuff, Аня, I can understand why some people in New Hampshire might not be 100% truthful with pollsters, and why they might have their numbers unlisted every four years.
