I know what you’re seeing, Steve, thanks to Hipparchia, I just can’t find anything about why, or why I’m not seeing it. I’m also not seeing the background change on any comments other than mine, although it is apparent that there is a change.

Very faint gray, near (and parallel to) the column boundaries, intersecting with a horizontal rule at the bottom. Doesn’t change w.r.t. the columns when I maximize the browser window. Maybe a border style applied to the left and right boxes? It’s nothing that interferes with reading anything.

I’m not seeing vertical rules in either Firefox or IE 7 – ’tis a puzzlement.

Hmm. As I look at it again, one could argue that the right vertical rule is a half inch left of where it belongs. YMMV.

Re: the vertical rules, Stella’s and my Firefox 2.0.0.12 both show the left and right rules about a half inch to the right of where they belong. IE 7.0 shows the right rule about a half inch to the right; the left rule doesn’t appear at all. Go figure. No big deal; no urgent correction required.

The only hard part is reading other people’s code. No two people do things exactly the same way and you have to figure out where the things you’re looking for are hidden.

Well that’s weird, because I have the same software and there are no vertical lines. I’ll have to check the template.

I now seem to be able to see the site from my regular ISP, whereas before I had to log in to my NIU account via a VPN server to get it to come up at all.

However, at least on my browser (Firefox 2.0.0.12 on an XP box), the vertical rules delineating your three columns are off. They’re running about half an inch in from where they should be.

Actually it does seem to work better, so I have to wonder if there was something about the old template that was causing the load problems. It is possible that they finally correctly the DNS problem it looked to be.
