I was just listening to a bootleg album of Hendrix called ‘Cherokee Mist’. 🙂 It’s made up of tracks from unreleased sessions, including a few blues (and one where he plays harmonica) It’s a different Hendrix, but shows he was more talented than people give him credit for (though he was mostly known for his guitar work of course). He even does a rendition of ‘Denny Boy’! LOL
One of my fave bands is Deep Purple, very underrated these days sadly. I have heard them called a hack band by critics, which is amazing given the depth of talent by the original members. Chris Curtis was a brilliant drummer, and mostly responsible for my decision to learn drums, who formed Deep Purple after leaving the Searchers. Jon Lord was a classically trained pianist, and worked on The Kinks #1 hit, ‘You really got me’. Ritchie Blackmore studied classical guitar at the age of 10, and decided he preferred electric guitars and was cutting records by 17. Curtis decided not to continue and was replaced bu a brilliant drummer, Ian Paice. All they need was a front man (singer) to complete the band. Rod Stewart auditioned (but thank the stars was turned down), and they hired Rod Evans. :). The first song they recorded was ‘Hush’ because it was the only song all the members knew! LOL To the band’s astonishment, it went to the top 5 on the US charts, and the rest… is history. 🙂
I was also listening to one of my fave 70’s/80’s groups, Heart. Two amazing sisters, Anne & Nancy Wilson, and still going strong. 🙂
But, my fave psychedelic band is Tangerine Dream. 🙂 I have about 35 of their albums. They also did a lot of movie soundtracks over the past 40 years or so, so chances are, you all have heard them. (Firestarter, Flashpoint, Near Dark, Shy People, and several other movies). 😀
Thanks for the memories… 🙂
]]>what? i’m not allowed to post music from my parents’ generation? 😈
like jams, i was a kid when these were popular [your list], and mostly heard them on the radio as golden oldies later.
]]>Jams, most people don’t remember “Kenny Rogers and the First Edition”, they think that country pop was all he ever did.
Those times were a lot friendlier towards liberals and progressives, and there was a lot more unity than these, Steve. There wasn’t as much hypocrisy in society.
]]>Google on “mondegreen” for more of this ilk. Or just go to the wiki.
No argument about the mid-60s, but these times are stranger still, don’t you think?
]]>Actually the only song I didn’t know was the Kenny Rogers one. Marvellous stuff.
