We are in for some “interesting times”.

Of course… it’s only actually a revolution when the people in revolt actually win! 😉 Otherwise… it’s a slaughter.

PBS is the only outlet left that shows political satire on broadcast TV, and it’s all imported. There’s no lack of sarcasm in the US, but the “powers that be” don’t want to offend the conservative sensibilities. The history clearly shows a grand American tradition of annoying the people in power, but the history has been revised to the point that the Founding Fathers were saints having all of the virtues, not the reality that most were wealthy landowners who had the free time to foment revolutions and create governments.

Actually, when poor people have their fill and take to the streets it’s called rioting. To be a proper revolution the leaders need a university education. 😈

And adante… you probably won’t believe this… but that song, Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr, was just playing! I swear… How’d ya do that?? Spooky…. 😐

Not all Americans have lost their sense of humor. 🙂 If you look at the guestbook entries on The Games ABC site, you’ll see a *few* Americans begging for the series to be released on NTSC format. 😉 LOL Like a lady from Salt Lake City before the US Winter Games, 2002. 😉

The Games Guestbook

Then… you have a few like this sad case who’d trying to score with John Clarke and even posts her age and address for God’s sake! (Which I’ll cut out here). 😉 LMAO

Remarks I am from Stephenson, Michigan, USA and have only begun watching the “Games” on our local PBS station this past fall season… it is Brilliant!!! It has become my favorite show.
Could you tell me how many shows are in the entire series, and if it would be possible to purchase these in video form (NTSC format). I have probably only seen about 6 or 7 shows thus far, and the one about the Dream Team had me rolling on the floor with laughter! Thanks so much for getting this on American TV.
Would it be possible to get an autographed photo of the “Games” crew…. I think I’ve developed a crush on John Clarke!

It appears it was on PBS… Maybe a copy of the series is available there? Well, there are *bootleg* copies apparently… 😉

Remarks My brother recorded “The Games” from KPBS (public TV in San Diego, CA) and loaned the tape to me. Why can’t we make shows like this in the US (I’m sure you’ve wondered the same thing)?

It is excellent (even though I can’t understand about 25% of it).

Are the shows available on video tape or DVD in the US?

Thanks for the wonderful entertainment.

Heh… funny! 😀

I think most of the world is aware that Al Qaeda taught members how to con people into becoming suicide bombers, so there is absolutely nothing new in the report.

At this point more people are afraid of the Dow than terrorists.

So – who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters?

Now you need to be a cable subscriber to see the few shows that are left, like the Jon Stewart and Stephen Cobert shows on the Comedy Central network. The corporate overlords don’t like political humor.

People in the US have lost their ability to laugh at themselves at the same time they have become totally absurd.

Errrm… oh, right! Yes, our Aunty (as the ABC is affectionately known here) wouldn’t dream of publicly making a President of the great USA look a fool on National TV! After all, we simply let Bush do that himself, it’s entirely his prerogative to look a complete fool at every opportunity. And may I just say, he does a masterful job at it! 😀 Just as it’s been the prerogative of every American citizen to have a foolish incompetent as the leader of their country for 8 years. 🙂 None of our business. We had our own fool-in-charge to worry about and eventually get rid of… after the joke wore a bit thin, finally. 😉 LOL

Yep! I liked that one about the ratings agencies! LOL I liked the bit at the end about buying the Judge! 😉 LOL Yeah… spot on! “Clarke and Dawe’s spin on the credit crunch.” That one. 🙂

You can watch the other skits (or parodies really) about what C&D think about our own Gov for a laugh if you like. 😉 We don’t mind. LOL

They did a wonderful series before the Australian Olympics called ‘The Games”. Was hilarious (and horrifyingly close to reality!) 🙂 This was not their normal 2 person format, but a full mini-series. 🙂

The Games

Scripts (in PDF) are available at John Clarke’s site:
John Clarke – The Games

I’ve seen some of the episodes, or snippets on YouTube (of course!) LOL

They are apparently working on a new series for the London 2012 Olympics, there is a sample there. 🙂

There’s even a Wiki (duh!)
The Games (Australian TV series)

LOL

It’s amazing how he does it. The sentences have nouns and verbs and punctuation but they don’t seem to form anything recognizable.

The bit on the ratings was spot on, and people have missed that part.

I suppose a balanced number might be achievable. 😉 LOL

Truth is, all people need is a sense of honer and honesty, with themselves foremost and then the rest will follow. 🙂 Which I suspect is what you meant. What my grandfather would call some common sense and common decency and a little respect. We wouldn’t be in this mess now. 😉

Amen to that Bryan! 😀

Hey… We have a couple of satirists on our ABC currant affairs program and every Thursday they do a sketch about something currently topical. 🙂 The transcripts and vid’s are available online. The did one of Bushmoron on the credit crisis last week! Very funny (well, until you realize it’s probably horrifyingly close to the truth that is). 😉 They have done a few sketches on the current debacle worth watching. The vid’s are better than the transcripts. 🙂

Special Feature: John Clarke and Bryan Dawe

Enjoy! 😀
