Terror Attack In India

A coordinated attack against the headquarters of the anti-terrorist officials, the busiest train station in the world, a women’s and children’s hospital, and two of the main hotels used by foreigners has taken place in Mumbai [Bombay], the financial center of India.

It is assumed that the attack was carried out by Islamic extremists that have been active in India for years and involved perhaps dozens of people using automatic weapons and grenades. It is unlikely that any of the attackers expect to survive this action, so the hostage situations at the hotels and hospital will probably not end well.

The CBC, Austrailian Broadcasting, BBC, and CNN all have local reporting, as well as wire reports.

Over 80 are known dead, and over a hundred are known to be wounded.

Think Progress have a report with links on this also:

At least 80 killed in Mumbai terrorist attacks.

So much for “Attacking them there so they can’t attack us here” (paraphrasing) which we all know was a load of complete BS as soon as Bush uttered the words. Of course, this happened in India, so I presume the wingnuts will claim a victory because they didn’t attack the USA.

I don’t think this has anything to do with the US, but is targeting at the recent statements of the new Pakistani president urging better relations with India and cooperation on terrorist attacks. Recent moves to rein in the Pakistani intelligence services certainly played a part, because the ISI has been supporting Islamic whackos all over the region.

They go after US/UK citizens to boost the media coverage and damage India’s international business interest.
