Yeah… I think that’s correct. Add the paste to the vinegar/wine mix after it has set for an hour. I remember the smell when it boiled. ๐ LOL When I was 10 or so, it made me gag. LOL

]]>Technically speaking none of those symbols is associated with Christmas – that’s Grandfather Frost, not Santa Claus, who shows up on New Year’s, and freezes to death those on the “naughty” list because they don’t get the food and warm clothing given to those who were “nice”. He wears blue with a fur coat over the top and the staff will freeze you instantly. Of course he is Russian, and with this much violence it has to be a children’s fairy tale.

]]>It’s not exactly a traditional ‘Thanksgiving’ recipe, but it’s good any time! ๐
ITALIAN SALAD (6 Servings)
Ingredients:
1 cup cooked beets
1 cup cooked carrots
1 cup chopped celery
1 head of lettuce
1/2 cup green peas
1/2 cup cucumbers, pared, seeded and diced
Mayonnaise thinned with cream or sour cream
Preperation:
Prepare the vegetables and chill.
Combine the salad with dressing.
Prepare beds of lettuce and top with the salad.
ITALIAN SALAD DRESSING (2 cups)
Ingredients:
3/4 cup wine vinegar
2/3 cup red wine
1 clove garlic
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. capers
1/2 cup olive oil
1 tbsp. mustard seeds
2 capsicum/peppers (green, red or both)
2 tsp. pre-prepared mustard (whatever your favorite mustard is, may need to experiment.)
1 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. rosemary (dried)
1 tsp. oregano (dried)
Preperation:
Mix the vinegar and wine, set for 1 hour.
Finely chop garlic.
Add the salt, capers, mustard seed to the garlic and pound to a paste.
(Use a mortar and pestle, or a round bowl and back of a spoon)
Remove the pepper insides and cut into thin slivers.
Boil the garlic paste, add the peppers and spices, stirring often.
Remove from the heat, add olive oil, allow to cool.
Enjoy! ๐
