He pulled the country together and told them to make sacrifices, not hoard their wealth. Everyone was required to help, because we were all in it together.

There is another quotation, one from PNAC’s “Rebuilding America’s Defenses” (2000), that says everything we need to know about our political opponents:

… the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event — like a new Pearl Harbor.

In other words, to neocons, the very concept of Pearl Harbor is not that of an horrific event, but of a political opportunity. They should be ashamed of themselves, but of course they’re not.

I am grateful to our fathers for having won World War II for us. And I am especially grateful that GeeDubya Bush was not president in 1941… I believe the outcome would have been much worse if he had been.

There are very few survivors left alive. My late father was one of them though he never talked about it. A very significant day in the history of this country.
