If there aren’t kids around to add the “juice” to the activities, it is hard to build up much in the way of “good will towards men” and I spent two decades working on the “holidays” in the military and law enforcement, which dulls the significance. There’s nothing like a Christmas day family dispute to put the “season” is perspective. You enter a living room with smashed ornaments all around and you just know this is not going to end with egg nog all around.

TSA is the reason my Mother won’t be traveling to see her newest great grandchild this year. She would love to go, but it is just too much a PITA at her age to attempt it.

Definitely not happening. a) the last time I put up Christmas lights, I was 17 years old. Haven’t bothered since. b) crap, I can’t even pull an 8 foot microphone cord through my living room with TMF and Mencken in attendance. Or leave a headphone cord just sitting there. See last Friday’s experimental cat video, where TMF suddenly decided that my little Sony in-ear headphones were his newest playtoy and started to remove them from my desk until I said “no no nonono! Mine!” and sorta nudged him back into my lap.

That said, I must admit to being somewhat of a dour bird lately. Holiday times always do that to me, sigh. Not because I sit at home sulking about my lousy life. More because of the hassles of traveling to spend the days elsewhere. In a couple of weeks I get to brave the TSA proctology exams. Wonderful.

When is the last time you “duck-walked” along the edge of a roof replacing strings of Christmas tree lights with the assistance of a juvenile cat who assumed that it was a great new game? With TMF and Mencken in attendance just try to pull 100 feet of Christmas tree lights through your living room.
