I know someone who was in the habit of cleaning out his fireplace with a shop vac. I’ll never forget the mess when he did it a little too soon after the last fire. Most people don’t stop to consider that they’re made of plastic and will melt.

I run it as much for the people in stores selling things. I think they have a responsibility not to sell things that are dangerous to idiots, or that won’t do the job. Unfortunately, the big box stores are just interested in sales, and couldn’t care less what they sell.

It’s hard to be an informed consumer when the sales staff are dumber than a sack of hammers.

Pink diamonds are only rare because the Kimberly cartel doesn’t let the Russians flood the market. Russia has few white diamonds, but their mines produce huge amounts of colored diamonds that don’t ever seem to get on the international market. Personally I prefer Australian opals, but that’s just me.

We just call that… ‘natural selection’. 😉

Everyone involved in the effort has to attend a briefing about the dangers and are not allowed without appropriate protection. If they don’t listen and do the right thing… *shrug*

Some people just have to learn the hard way. 😉

Notice I didn’t mention ‘common sense’. That phrase always makes me laugh. It rarer than pink diamonds. 😉

I know you’ve done it before, the same as we have cleaned up after hurricanes before, but that doesn’t seem to stop people from putting generators in their kitchen or removing their own limbs with chainsaws. Common sense would seem to have a shelf life measured in minutes.
