This is a problem with electing Senators, they aren’t required to have leadership skills in the legislative branch, and there is no way of finding out if they possess them until they are already elected. As the Shrubbery taught us, being a governor is no guarantee of anything, but it is a better starting place.

Obama may talk a good game, I don’t know, I’ve never heard him speak, but he hasn’t delivered anything.

getting us out of the long dark teatime of the republican deathgrip is going to take intelligence, imagination, courage, and mad political skillz. he’s got that last one, but the other 3 are either well-hidden or not there.

He is picking a choosing without really having the background to understand what is on offer, and what the strengths and weaknesses of various plans really are.

He talks about “hearing different voices”, but which voices is he listening to?

As for your question, Hipparchia, isn’t that really what single payer is all about, correcting the failure of government to hold insurance companies to their policies and promises? The system once worked, before we abandoned regulation and allowed bad conduct to go unpunished.

Most of what I’ve seen is superficial knowledge, not the in depth knowledge of Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter. I’m certainly not impressed with the work of his staff to prepare him.

i can’t decide. one minute he strikes me as reasonably intelligent, the next not so much. i think a fair portion of his problem is the years he spent teaching, and apparently soaking up the thinking of cass sunstein and his ilk.

then there’s this whole conciliation thing. once he’s decided who the two opposing sides are that he wants to bring together, he can’t really talk about anything outside of their realities.

can we force congress and the prez to buy liability insurance for their upcoming failure to protect our access to health care?

You buy liability coverage so that if you are involved in a vehicle accident, the other people can be reimbursed for the damage you cause. To cover yourself you need the extra cost, and voluntary collision coverage.

There is no comparing the two, and that seems to fly right over most people’s heads, including his. I’m required to have liability insurance, not repair and maintenance insurance, and only if I own a car.

I don’t believe true reform is even possible. People have been brainwashed by the insurance industry and therefore don’t demand reform.

Well, if you are a “moderate” [Who in hell decided that conservative business lackies should be called moderates? That only started recently.] you only consider the health of insurance companies, not their policy holders. Office holders are only concerned with campaign contributors.
