This is a problem with electing Senators, they aren’t required to have leadership skills in the legislative branch, and there is no way of finding out if they possess them until they are already elected. As the Shrubbery taught us, being a governor is no guarantee of anything, but it is a better starting place.

As for your question, Hipparchia, isn’t that really what single payer is all about, correcting the failure of government to hold insurance companies to their policies and promises? The system once worked, before we abandoned regulation and allowed bad conduct to go unpunished.
]]>i can’t decide. one minute he strikes me as reasonably intelligent, the next not so much. i think a fair portion of his problem is the years he spent teaching, and apparently soaking up the thinking of cass sunstein and his ilk.
then there’s this whole conciliation thing. once he’s decided who the two opposing sides are that he wants to bring together, he can’t really talk about anything outside of their realities.

I’m having serious doubts as to how intelligent Obama really is. Most of what I’ve seen is superficial knowledge, not the in depth knowledge of Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter. I’m certainly not impressed with the work of his staff to prepare him.
]]>There is no comparing the two, and that seems to fly right over most people’s heads, including his. I’m required to have liability insurance, not repair and maintenance insurance, and only if I own a car.
I don’t believe true reform is even possible. People have been brainwashed by the insurance industry and therefore don’t demand reform.
