The number of whackos is actually quite small, just as the number of people in the Klan, but the masses just go along because they don’t want any trouble.

Cowardice is alive and growing in this country thanks to 8 years of being terrorized by the Hedgemony.

I tell my Chinese and Indian co-workers that they live in a small bubble of sanity within an insane nation, and that the sane, productive nation full of well-educated people producing outrageously advanced technology that they see around them here in the SF Bay Area is an illusion, that if they go outside this bubble they will have a rude awakening. They don’t believe me. Other than the few who actually *have* gone outside this bubble, who swiftly found themselves pulled to the side of the road every fifty miles for “driving a nice car while brown” (since they largely drive BMW’s, which I laughingly refer to as the “Silicon Valley Chevy” because you see so many affluent computer professionals driving the things here). Or have gone into diners while on said road trip, and nobody would serve them because, well, you do know that Indians look a bit Mexican right between the dark complexion and the dark curly hair? Those few get the message, though they’re quite baffled by it. The rest… they don’t believe it. They’re in for a rude awakening when the marching morans finish up with the rest of the nation and head here to finish the job :(.

That was a spoof, Steve, but an excellent, Emily Litella riff.

I am still having difficulty believing this poster is not a deliberate spoof. Then again…

I was once told that I should stop “picking on” a co-worker because he had an inferiority complex.

My response was that it wasn’t a “complex”, it was an acceptance of reality. He was slacking off, and had other people doing his job.

I have absolutely no problem dealing with people who are unable to learn, but a major problem with those who refuse to learn. In DC there was a large group of people who refuse to learn. Most of them are quite capable of it, but they won’t expend the effort. They would rather have someone else think for them.

I can assure you that I have never brought up Mensa locally, as the “Frankenstein response” is rather noticeable down here, and, yes, it is much worse for women in this environment, and in most of the culture. It is that nasty bit of America that wants someone to look down on, someone to blame for personal failure.

It is extremely annoying when you are trying to get something done and you pick the best person for the job, only to have your boss complaining because you selected a woman. My “problem” is that I have always worked with women, in factories, in the Air Force, in law enforcement, in computers, and I don’t have much in the way of patience for appearance based classifications. That is not the way I was raised.

i suppose it goes along with the irritation/fear that people feel when they think [or know] that you’re keeping secrets from them.

E-mails in all caps is probably the bulk of their individual literary oeuvres, to be condescending and French about it.

You get the feeling that if you are capable of actually constructing a declarative sentence in English that makes the point you intended, you are considered elitist.

It gets to the point that you have to wonder if they are consciously hiding whatever education they have, because most of what they want to day was covered by the eighth grade.
