Misspelling given names is a Southern “thing”, Jams, as is adding -lene to the end of the father’s given name if the first born child is a girl. Boys get stuck with last names used as given names, Jefferson being the most common. This is one of the reasons many people in the South use nicknames, their real, legal name is such a mess outside of their hometown.

One of the things that sets them off, is that the Marines really want to be sure that those they send out limit the violence to specific groups, without any free-lancing or independent thinking on the part of the individuals. I would think the codes on his first DD-214 [he had a break in service] would make interesting reading.

Marines aren’t exactly boy scouts. Their job is to travel the world, meet interesting people… and kill them. For the Marines to flag this guy as “do not deploy” means it ain’t just run of the mill being a violent dude that has them nervous about him, the Marines *like* that. He’s got something *wrong* with him, the Marines think… and when the Marines think that, you know it’s trouble.

I really hope that the priest didn't have one of the huge crosses around his neck that many of them wear, although, as he was returning from ministering at a nursing home, he may have. Yeah, not being deployed is rather weird, given the number of guys who have pulled multiple tours. They have him tagged for something that makes them nervous.

Let’s not forget that the Greek Orthodox (the state religion of the Eastern Roman Empire ne Byzantine empire) have been at war with Muslims for what, 1400 years? And the dude apparently called 911 and *bragged* that he’d bagged him a terrorist! And he’s been a Marine reservist for 8 years and *never served in Iraq or Afghanistan*?! I know only one way that can happen, and that’s if a guy’s record has been flagged with, “Call this dude up if the enemy is landing on American soil, and not one second before, because’s he’s the dumbest M-F on the planet.”

Carl Hiassen *has* to put this moron into his next novel (lightly disguised of course, like his lightly-disguised Geraldo a few novels back 🙂 ).

Yeah, but he had a beard and robe and funny hat [i.e. not a NASCAR ball cap] so he could have been a terrorist, right? There isn’t much difference between a bouzouki and a bazooka, and he might have wanted to break some plates or drink ouzo, which can be terrible, right?
