I have seen mentioned that some people have started a movement to draft Dick “Dick” Cheney to run for President in 2012.

While it is generally not a bad idea to allow wingnuts to waste their time, money, and energy on worthless causes, as it keeps them from getting under foot while the adults attempt to clean up their messes, I would note that with all of its resources, the Selective Service System of the United States was unable to draft Cheney. Actually one of the few things that Cheney seemed to have been able to do well in his life is avoid the draft.

While I understand the desire to put the only person who frightens all of the winger talking heads in charge, calling it a “draft” was really a deal-killer.

I don’t know, Bryan. Maybe it would appeal to Cheney a bit more if they pronounced it “graft” instead of “draft,” a pronunciation apparently common enough in the Civil War era if Henry Clay Work’s song “Grafted into the army” is to be believed. I could easily believe Cheney would not avoid the graft.

Graft? Hmm… Yes, I seem to remember that there is some relationship between Cheney and the concept of graft. Of course, he did complete the post-grad course on graft – he was a corporate CEO.

…Lynne Cheney probably won’t be pleased at all to hear about this new “draft” movement. He’s not going be be able to rely on all those college deferments this time….

Well, she might like to see him out of the house more often and back in his undisclosed location.

Personally, I would love to see him run. At least we would know what percentage of the population is totally insane and still allowed to vote.
