Yes, Badtux, the desert in bloom is an amazing sight.
Actually, would snow pack be more useful than rain in the long term?
Well, there’s no guarantee on weeks, but the pattern is looking stable for a little longer, so the reservoirs will get some more help.
Of course, the new growth with be fuel for the next fire season, if the drought pattern isn’t broken.
]]>Over here in Sodom By The Bay, we’ve gotten a lot of rain and wind, but nothing that is all that drastic. The rivers and creeks are nowhere near overflowing in the Bay area itself, though some of the periphery has some flooding problems (the usual suspects up in Marin and down along the San Lorenzo whose houses are built between the road and the creek, but they get flooding in a light dew so that’s not unusual). I’m looking forward to the springtime, the wildflowers are going to be absolutely mahvelous down in Coe State Park and over in Death Valley, both of which are deserts usually but respond quite well to rain. If the current pattern holds, it may even be the end of our three-year drought, although even with all the rain of this past week the reservoirs are still only half-full… we’ll need several more weeks like this one to fill them up. We can hope, though…

]]>Hmmm, sounds like a thunderstorm on the Gulf Coast, which, having lived in SoCal, I know how freaked out people can get. I heard thunder once in a decade in San Diego, and people reacted like it was “The Big One”. Of course, you don’t have a real stormwater runoff system, and the LA River is better known for movie car chases than actual water flow. Apparently the Station Fire burn area wasn’t hit that heavily, but the Jet Stream is still in Mexico, so there is probably more to come.
Stay safe and as dry as possible. Remember: mold and mildew are just plants.
Not on National Pie Day, Steve.
]]>No. No. I must be getting old if I can’t force myself even to type that ancient punchline…
