The entire issue makes liberals look like twits, Elayne. I have “bought” chametz from Jewish friends so I’m familiar with the customs. Cross-cultural knowledge is part of being a military brat, and I lived in a Jewish neighborhood in upstate New York. One of the guys who worked for me in law enforcement was in grad school and became a rabbi [reform, obviously].

People should ignore the cheap shots and hammer Republicans on their insane policy choices.

Kryten, I read the complaint that BT linked to and got the impression is had more to do with choice of party, than perceived insult. If you go looking for trouble, you’ll find it.

Uhhhh… BT… At the risk of being branded yet again as anti-Semitic or whatever… Some Jews will find pretty much anything offensive, unless they do or say it. *shrug* Same with some Muslims, Christians, Republicans, Dem’s… the list is endless! Some people will take offense at the most innocent thing, it’s very easy to find… if one is paranoid enough or just looking for trouble. Unfortunately, the World seems to have many people like this.

Hmm, on the other hand, EBM says she might as well talked about sharing a nice meal of ham and shellfish, and EBM is quite Jewish thank you very much, so maybe it WAS offensive to Jews. I dunno. I have seen leavened bread used in some services, but I’m used to more of the pita-type of unleavened bread that is broken for Communion, although the “wine” is grape juice [a bit of an anti-intoxicant tradition in the branch]. The bread is baked by one of the “church ladies” and the ability to swallow it is a gift.

The home-made version is the same as the standard Mideast flat bread that is fairly universal among nomadic groups. It serves as the dinner service, i.e. plate, utensil, and napkin for camp meals.

…depending on the “Christian tradition” within which one grew up, it’s entirely possible that there isn’t any understanding of the Seder meal ritual or just exactly what kind of bread (or crackers) was in play. Lots of people who grew up being forced by their parents to go to Maundy Thursday services or listen to the Last Supper story have visions of Jesus ripping hunks off of a baguette and passing it around with a big ol’ cup of Manichewitz Kosher Concord Grape Wine. They don’t know what they don’t know. I certainly won’t see them at the alter rail tomorrow night when I’ m redeeming my role as Elder by helping to serve Communion at the Maundy Thursday service, but – aside from all that – they demean and diminish the voice of progressives in any larger conversation because they don’t even understand things like Matzoh as a cultural tradition, much less a food type or religious symbol…

BTW, thanks for the link the other day. Life has been crazy the last couple of months, and I haven’t been able to spend much time on the intertubes (including my own place)…

There is nothing wrong with going for the cheap shot in politics when the opportunity presents itself, like the “demon sheep” ad, but when you blow it, you lose your credibility and help the target deflect later serious criticism.

She wants to do for the US Senate what she did for Lucent and HP, which should be enough to scare real investors and tech people. She is a fan of H-1Bs which should annoy the “patriots” and the unemployed senior tech people. There are all kinds of substantial reasons not to want Fiorina as a CEO/Senator, so why not stay with them and forget the stupid?

On a sacrilegious side-note, I re-read the KJV version of Exodus beginning at chapter 12 verse 14, and it sounds more live a Monty Python script than “the inerrant word of G-d”. It has a lot in common with the instructions for the Holy Hand-grenade of Antioch.

That was one that even I scratched my head over and said, “say wha?!” Lord knows I’m not a fan of Carly, when she was handed her walking papers at HP she had to walk in humiliation past rows of HP employees gleefully singing “Ding, dong, the witch is gone!” and it was a feeling universally shared here in the Silicon Valley, but this matzo bread thing seemed stupid from get-go. Maybe something suited for a quick snarklette on Wonkette, but Wonkette isn’t intended to be fair or accurate, it’s intended to be vicious and snarky. The fact that some A-listers joined the snarkfest… bah.
