Not all that surprising, since at the beginning all aristocrats were the leaders of the toughest and most vicious gang in the neighborhood. Pirates are a natural fit for coastal communities. They had money and weapons, so they obviously got to lead.

Of course, if the oil reaches the area and the water becomes flammable, that would *really* make the fireworks memorable :twisted:.
